Since 2001, it is quite popular for Property clients to buy coverage for Terrorism & Sabotage. Colonnade is offering the coverage either as standalone policy or embedded in Property policy.
In CEE countries where we operate, the cover is particularly popular in Poland and Romania. As usual in insurance, it is about providing piece of mind - this time about perils with low possibility of happening in our territories but high potential damage, if worse were to happen.
Following the drone incidents of September 2025, we received a lot of requests from existing and potential new clients to offer cover for War. Colonnade and its reinsurance partners responded to these requests, providing indications or quotations. As the international reinsurance market for war cover is London, the process involves asking a reinsurer on London market for terms, negotiate etc. Not the smoothest/easiest process for neither party involved.
“From January 1, 2026, we widened our capabilities to deliver rapid, comprehensive pricing for Political Violence risks, ensuring clients across the region can protect their assets without delay”, Adrian Jurubita Property Practice Leader proudly summarized.
The whole spectrum of cover includes the perils of:
- Act of Terrorism
- Sabotage
- Riots, Strikes, and/or Civil Commotion
- Malicious Damage
- Insurrection, Revolution or Rebellion
- Mutiny and/or Coup d'Etat
- War and/or Civil War
Cover is provided for physical Property Damage and the consequent Business Interruption (if needed by client).
We can indicate cover for the whole package up to limits of EUR 25,000,000 and operate a simplified binding process up to such limits. Higher limits (up to 100-200m EUR) are available, but with a slower process. To what we know, Colonnade is one of the first companies in CEE who can quickly indicate prices to the clients for such wide cover, without the need (and the time involved) to approach London market.
The cover is unitary, there is no "pick and choose" approach possible. This is because in the realm of political violence it is not very clear what happens at what time. When does a Civil Commotion becomes a Revolution? (it is a valid question, if we look at the revolution in Egypt in 2011, that started as a riot, same thing in Tunisia, while the civil war in Siria started as peaceful protests against the government). Having the whole cover provides a piece of mind, knowing the client purchased the widest cover possible.
